Lady Jessica

Plant memories in the Sisterhood, then transform — and make the whole board answer to the Reverend Mother.

Intermediate (two complexity icons) — a two-sided leader

Background

Lady Jessica is Uprising's only two-sided leader. She starts on her Jessica side: her Signet Ring (Spice Agony) pays 1 spice for a Bene Gesserit Influence step and moves a troop from your supply to the Bene Gesserit area as a memory. Her passive, Other Memories, lets you — when sending an Agent to a Bene Gesserit space — return all those memories, drawing a card for each, then flip the leader.

As Reverend Mother Jessica, once per turn at a Bene Gesserit or Fremen space you may spend 1 water to repeat the space's printed effects, and her signet becomes 1 spice → 1 water. She is an investment arc: sow, harvest, transcend.

How you win

Play the early game as an accumulator: each Spice Agony is Influence progress (the Bene Gesserit VP and Alliance come almost for free) plus a banked card. Time the Other Memories harvest for a round where a huge hand matters — then spend the rest of the game as the Reverend Mother, whose water-powered double space effects make every Bene Gesserit and Fremen visit nearly two visits.

Her VP mix leans political: Influence thresholds, an Alliance or two, and the purchases a monster draw-turn funds.

How they play

  • Sow memories steadily — a signet play most rounds builds both the Influence track and the future card harvest; three or four memories is a healthy crop
  • Flip on your terms — the draw-for-each harvest is strongest right before a Reveal turn you want to be huge (a key Conflict, a big Persuasion round)
  • As Reverend Mother, budget water — Fremen combat spaces repeated twice swing battles; Bene Gesserit spaces repeated twice swing tracks. Keep 1–2 water always in reserve
  • Mind the troop cost — memories come from your supply, thinning future garrisons; don't sow so deep that the mid-game army disappears

Strengths

  • Jessica gets an early-game engine and a late-game engine, each tuned to its phase — no other Uprising leader changes powers mid-flight.

  • Spice Agony makes the Bene Gesserit track almost proprietary: the 2-Influence VP, the 4-Influence bonus, and the Alliance usually all land in her hands.

Weaknesses

  • !

Memories pay nothing until harvested, and the flip consumes a whole Agent placement's flexibility. A rushed or badly timed transformation wastes her entire arc.

  • !

Her powers eat spice (signet), troops (memories), and water (Reverend Mother) — three currencies that combat strategies also want. Poverty in any one of them stalls her.

Tips & tricks

  • Tip

Count your memories and flip when the drawn cards convert directly: four extra cards into a Reveal turn can mean an 8-Persuasion shopping spree or a Conflict swung by swords nobody saw coming.

  • Tip

The Reverend Mother's repeat also works on Fremen spaces — pairing the Bene Gesserit Alliance with a Fremen climb (and Sietch Tabr access) makes her late game frighteningly efficient.
