Lady Amber Metulli

Commit soldiers, keep options — and let a full treasury quietly outlast the zealots.

Beginner-friendly (one complexity icon)

Background

Lady Amber Metulli governs with a light, careful hand. Her passive, Desert Scouts, lets you retreat one of your troops on your Reveal turn — pulling a soldier back out of a Conflict after seeing how the table committed. Her Signet Ring, Fill Coffers, gains 1 Solari — plus 1 spice once you hold any Faction Alliance.

One complexity icon, but a subtle personality: she bluffs battles other leaders must honor, and banks small change that compounds.

How you win

Enter Conflicts cheaply and decide late. A deployed troop pressures everyone's math — then Desert Scouts pulls it home if the war turns unprofitable, saving the soldier for a better round. Meanwhile the signet's steady income (doubled in kind once you clinch an Alliance) funds infrastructure early and Persuasion late.

Her path to 10 VP is balanced and unhurried: contest the Conflicts worth winning, concede the rest at zero cost, and let saved troops and saved money surface as points in the final rounds.

How they play

  • Deploy as information warfare — a single troop in the Conflict forces rivals to respect you; retreat it at reveal if the pot isn't worth the fight
  • Retreat is a save, not a loss — the soldier returns to fight tomorrow, while other leaders' committed troops go to supply win or lose
  • Race to any Alliance — the signet's upgrade from 1 Solari to 1 Solari + 1 spice roughly doubles its value; the Fremen or Bene Gesserit track are natural homes
  • Bank, then spike — her quiet income wants one decisive spending round: a Swordmaster, a Heighliner-style army, or a double-card Reveal

Strengths

  • Every other leader's deployment is a promise; Amber's is a question. Rivals must spend real strength answering threats she can cancel for free at reveal.

  • Retreated troops go home to the garrison instead of bleeding to supply — over a full game Amber simply fields more soldiers than her recruitment ever bought.

Weaknesses

  • !

One retreated troop and small change never win a round outright. Against leaders with explosive turns, Amber must convert her many small edges before the game ends.

  • !

Until an Alliance lands, Fill Coffers is the weakest signet in the box — a game where the Alliance races slip away leaves her ring printing pocket lint.

Tips & tricks

  • Tip

The best retreats are from second place you can't improve: pull the troop, concede gracefully, and enter next round's Conflict one soldier richer than the winner.

  • Tip

Her savings want a destination: decide by mid-game whether the treasury becomes a Swordmaster, an Alliance push, or Spice Must Flow buys — undirected thrift is Amber's only real failure mode.
